The third of the five sons of Isidro (Ignacio) Lacuna and Eduviges Abesamis, wealthy proprietors, Urbano was born in Penaranda, Nueva Ecija, on 25 May 1862. Urbano received his early education in Gapan, Nueva Ecija, later was enrolled in ‘Escuela de Normal’ in Manila, where he took up a teachers course but left a year before his graduation as a ‘maestro superior’ to marry Isabel Ibarra Libornio of Sta. Ana, Manila in 1881.
At 22, Urbano was designated a forest ranger assigned in the province of Romblon in 1884. …
